MODEL PREDICTIVE CONTROL - WITHIN A TWO-LAYERED FRAMEWORK
Baocang (Chongqing University Of Posts And T Ding
- Wiley-IEEE Press
- 19 March 2024
- 9781119471318
Model Predictive Control Understand the practical side of controlling industrial processes Model Predictive Control (MPC) is a method for controlling a process according to given parameters, derived in many cases from empirical models. It has been widely applied in industrial units to increase revenue and promoting sustainability. Systematic overviews of this subject, however, are rare, and few draw on direct experience in industrial settings. Assuming basic knowledge of the relevant mathematical and algebraic modeling techniques, the book's title combines foundational theories of MPC with a thorough sense of its practical applications in an industrial context. The result is a presentation uniquely suited to rapid incorporation in an industrial workplace. Model Predictive Control readers will also find: Two-part organization to balance theory and applications Selection of topics directly driven by industrial demand An author with decades of experience in both teaching and industrial practice This book is ideal for industrial control engineers and researchers looking to understand MPC technology, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students studying predictive control and related subjects.

Welcome to the world of Sex Carnival - a whimsical, eye-opening record of one man's travels into the bold new world of porn. Bill Brownstein provides a guide for the uninitiated and the bewildered, a hands-on intro for anyone who wonders why the porno biz has become so mainstream in just the last few years.
Brownstein's global travels take him from watching Tristan and other sex superstars accept their trophies at the annual porn awards ceremony in Las Vegas to witnessing the weekend shopping sprees of Dutch families as the kids push their grocery carts through the biggest sex supermarkets on earth. He takes us from dungeons and dragons pleasure chambers in New York to a different kind of pleasure - the rough trade in Hamburg. And along the way, he stops off to catch some lap-dancing in Montreal and all kinds of unexpected action at the sex bars of Paris.
Sex Carnival is no definitive history of porn. Instead, this book is fun. Brownstein gives us a lively account of our obsession with the business of sex, an odyssey of one man's encounters with a universe of titillation that is fresh, original, naughty, and very bizarre.

Break Point

Groomed since the age of eight by his obsessive father Vince Spadea, by most accounts-except Andre Agassi's, who called Vince "a journeyman" at age 25-has been a success. At the start of the 2005 season, 19th seed Spadea was the only over-30-year-old player besides Agassi to be ranked in the top-20 on the world professional tennis circuit.
Now in his 13th professional season, Spadea gives a riveting account of the ultra-competitive and often hilarious world of a pro tennis player. He battles injuries, coaching and agent changes, and a slight from American Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe as he continues his improbable climb back up the rankings. Along the way, he considers taking two months off to appear on The Bachelor, practices with a still combative John McEnroe in a New York City tennis club, and prowls LA parties with his buddy, comedian Jon Lovitz, trying to pick up actresses like Natalie Portman and jump start his fledgling acting career.
Agassi, Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Martina Navratilova, Maria Sharapova, Jennifer Capriati, Tim Henman, and Marat Safin are all analyzed in more colourful and personal terms than the tennis media has ever provided. In these pages, Spadea breaks the taboo of the "whatever you see, hear and do here, stays here" locker room mentality. -

?Take As Directed gives Canadians a much-needed guidebook to safely navigate our encounters with health-care providers and optimize the management of our own health. In recent years, evidence indicating that our health-care system can be made safer has emerged. Here, a family physician and a pharmacy professor discuss the role each of us can play in achieving the best and safest possible health outcome for ourselves and our families. In clear and engaging language, Take As Directed walks the reader through the call to the family doctor's receptionist, the examination room encounter, the pharmacy counter, a visit to the emergency department, and a stay on the hospital ward, and outlines common pitfalls in these encounters. Health-care consumers will learn how to provide critical information to their caregivers and know what information they must obtain from them. Since many adverse health outcomes are related to the use of medications, readers will learn how to safely and effectively use their prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs.
Take As Directed is the first and definitive source book to:
- offer down-to-earth advice on how Canadians can obtain good health care, even in a "sick" system.
- outline communication styles of health-care providers and offer tried-and-true tips and tricks on dealing with various "bedside manners."
- offer guidance on optimizing the use of medications at home and reducing the chances of experiencing an adverse drug event, one of the commonest reasons for visits to Canadian emergency departments.
- identify trustworthy sources of health and medication information on the web.
All health-care consumers will benefit from the sage voices of the authors, two of Canada's most respected health-care professionals.

Wrestling With Rhinos

- ECW PRESS

- 9781554905072
Imagine it's 1965, and you've just fulfilled a boyhood ambition and graduated from the vet college in Glasgow, Scotland. The very next week you find yourself in Kenya, treating wild animals. This is what happened to Dr. Jerry Haigh, who in Wrestling with Rhinos takes us deep into the post-independence Kenya of 1965, and shows us what things were like until he left ten years later for a teaching post in Canada. Dealing with a 17 foot tall lame giraffe was an early challenge, as there had not been many giraffes in the teaching pool at Glasgow. A fall back on common sense, with the help of the owner and a knowledge of cattle medicine helped to create a cure. Along the way, he encountered traditional domestic animal patients as well as rhinos, elephants, wildebeest, lemurs and pelicans. Among them was Joy Adamson's cheetah, and we get a first-hand glimpse of their Born Free experiences. While living in a country just making the transition from colonial status to independence, Jerry also met President Jomo Kenyatta and treated his cattle.
Threaded through the text are observations - sometimes hilarious, sometimes scurrilous, sometimes poignant - on the social scene in Kenya, peppered with reminiscences about his soldier father, for whom the Kenya of World War II was a very different place.
In the final chapters, Jerry documents his perspective on human/wildlife conflicts, and looks ahead hopefully into the future.

Drawing Heat the Hard Way

- ECW PRESS

- 9781554908998
Thrilling but flawed, entertaining despite the swerves and double-crosses, captivating even when repugnant? professional wrestling has enjoyed the attention and loyalty of untold millions for nearly a century. How and why is precisely what Larry Matysik examines in his third book, Drawing Heat the Hard Way: How Wrestling Really Works.
Wrestlers have their own private language, and in the unique world of wrestling "drawing heat" is a very good thing: the successful generation of crowd reaction and fan excitement. The Hard Way? That's both exactly what it sounds like and something no one in the industry plans for: a legitimate and unintentional wound suffered because something's gone awry. In Drawing Heat the Hard Way, Matysik explains what it takes to win the hearts and minds of wrestling fans, and how, at times, mistakes, controversy and unexpected turns of events have damaged the reputation or forever changed the business he loves.
If anyone understands wrestling, the problem-child offspring of whatever "real" sport is, it's Matysik. Drawing Heat the Hard Way takes on the way wrestling is booked or planned; analyzes the roles of wrestlers and announcers, and explores steroids as an industry and fan issue. It also considers wrestling's power-brokers, from those who influence the business by reporting on it, like Dave Meltzer, to those who make the final decisions on what gets broadcast every week, like the omnipresent Vince McMahon, and even to those who influence the sport with their pocketbooks - the fans themselves.
At times humorous, occasionally heartbreaking, always insightful, Drawing Heat the Hard Way is ultimately an objective take on what it means to be a wrestling fan, from someone who knows the business inside and out. -
Chris & Nancy

- ECW PRESS
- 26 September 2011
- 9781554909025
The Benoit murder-suicide in 2007 was one of the most shocking stories of the year, and a seminal event in the history of wrestling. It laid bare the devastating prevalence of steroids and its effects on users.
In order to tackle the whole story, dig up the facts, and connect the dots, Irvin Muchnick gives the most sensational scandal in pro wrestling history the full true-crime treatment in Chris and Nancy.
Muchnick - the author of Wrestling Babylon and a co-author of Benoit: Wrestling with the Horror That Destroyed a Family and Crippled a Sport - has parsed public records and interviewed dozens of witnesses, inside and outside wrestling, to put together the first thorough and authoritative events of the gruesome June 2007 weekend in Fayette County, Georgia, during which World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Chris Benoit murdered his wife Nancy and their seven-year-old son Daniel, before proceeding to kill himself.
But this book goes beyond the crime itself to answer some of the most important questions behind it. The biography of Benoit, a wrestler's wrestler, makes it clear that his tragedy was a microcosm of the culture of drugs and death behind the scenes of one of North America's most popular brand of sports entertainment. The author probes the story of the massive supplies of steroids and human growth hormone found in his home - all prescribed by a "doctor to the stars" who got indicted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and all dismissed by a WWE "wellness policy" that promoted everything except its talent's wellness. The Benoit case led to unprecedented scrutiny of wrestling's overall health and safety standards, by Congressional investigators and others, and this book is the primary source of what they found and what they should continue to look for.

One More Day Everywhere

- ECW PRESS
- 26 September 2011
- 9781554908820
In November of 2001, Glen Heggstad decided to ride his motorcycle to the tip of South America. His journey was interrupted when he was kidnapped at gunpoint by Colombian rebels and held captive for five weeks. Yet even after his traumatic incarceration, Glen did what few others would - finished his trip.
Three years later, frustrated by the climate of fear in a media-saturated world and the resulting stranglehold of self-imposed security in the U.S., Glen decided to look for truth on his own terms - on the back of his motorcycle. Once more the "Striking Viking" left the comforts of California as an unofficial emissary with his own message to the world: We are not afraid and we refuse to hate.
Starting in Japan, Glen wound his way through Siberia, Mongolia, Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia, and Africa, stopping in over 30 countries. This was not a tourist's bus tour - Glen battled extreme temperatures, knee-deep mud, bureaucratic roadblocks, health problems, and loneliness, but these problems faded to insignificance with the thrill of the open road and the smiling receptions he received from locals and fellow bikers at every turn.
With One More Day Everywhere, readers can share Glen Heggstad's vision of a world ungoverned by fear and, like Glen, embrace each experience, with one eye always on the horizon.
